11 September 2025 - This morning, on the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, Our Big Kitchen invited 90 people, including the US consulate, Jeremy Cornforth, to remember all the fallen, and commemorate first responders, past and present.

Heartfelt speeches from Rabbi Dovid Slavin and his wife Laya Slavin, touched the hearts of all those who attended, reflecting upon the 2,977 lives that were lost on this solemn day, 24 years ago.

Amongst the 90 invited to this occasion were the NSW police, Ambulance NSW, and Fire & Rescue NSW. Commissioners from each department awarded one outstanding individual, filling the air with applause, smiles, and inspiration.

All those who attended proudly represented their profession through their uniform, knowing that they all helped the community with each day they work. This day, we remember everyone who made the ultimate sacrifice to serve the community at large. We remember everyone who inspired and changed how communities admire and appreciate first responders.

We remember the legacy they left, and carry on their bravery and admiration.

The bright atmosphere on this solemn occasion allowed all that joined us here today, in OBK to remember that it is important to come together as a community to support each other.

Just a few hours of your time can make the world for someone that doesn’t have to go hungry one more time.

Just a few hours can make the world for someone to feel safe again.
