Have questions? We're here to help!

  • Can I donate food?
You may donate food to us, however, the process of accepting donated food from individuals is rather tricky. Between government food regulations and being a kosher kitchen, we cannot always accept the food that is offered to us. That being said, we are always happy to inspect produce to see if we can accept it or not.
  • Are the meals nutritious?
Yes! Nutritious, plant-based hot meals are our specialty. We work with top Australian nutritionists to ensure that they are as wholesome as they are delicious.
  • If I need food, how do I get it?
Please call us at (02) 8084 2729. We will be happy to help.
  • Do you see a growing demand for meal requests?
Yes, we see an increase in demand each year.
  • Can anyone come in?
Everyone is always welcome, the kitchen is the community’s home.
  • Where does the food come from?
Our produce is donated to us by several local organisations, including SecondBite. These organisations collect excess or imperfect food that would otherwise go to waste. To ensure our meals are nutritionally balanced, we purchase protein from local markets.
  • What types of meals do we make?
What we make largely depends on what we receive from our donors. We are committed to making wholesome, balanced, nutritious hot meals. Our frequent staples include stews, curries, soups, and stir-fries. We seek feedback from our recipients to ensure we are making meals they enjoy.
  • How can I help?
We would love your help! There are a few ways you can help: By booking your next team-building, birthday, or event with us. By volunteering your time. By donating to our cause. This can mean equipment, services, or money. OBK would not be where it is today without the support of the community.
  • Are you partners with any other charities?
The charities we currently support can be found here.
  • Does OBK operate nationally?
Currently we only have one kitchen in Bondi, NSW. We hope to soon operate across Australia with several kitchens.
  • How do I volunteer?
You can view our volunteer opportunities once you create a volunteer profile with us. Click here to sign up. Once you have created your profile, select the volunteer timeslot(s) or event(s) that work for you. Please note: if you are over 18 you are required to get a Working With Children Check.
  • How does OBK differ from other food charities?
Our ethos is to connect and empower people by bringing them together and working to make a difference. We aim to turn recipients into givers, and to build connection through the act of giving.
  • How many meals do you give out per year?
In 2021, our community of OBK staff and volunteers cooked and distributed over 250,000 meals to people in need across New South Wales.
  • Where do the meals go?
We regularly provide meals to the following charities: Bear Cottage Wesley Mission Vinnies Clown Doctors Lou’s Place Gift of Life Mary’s House Oasis Youth of the Streets But, no one should ever be without a healthy meal. We have a no questions asked policy, should anyone need food they can come to OBK and they will always find help.
