Testimonials
I'd especially like to thank "Our Big Kitchen" and the great staff they have there: Mel and Rebecca who helped facilitate our day, prepare the lunch for the kids, and importantly topped us up when we ran out of flour! Their kitchen and what they do is amazing. Again, we simply couldn't have done it without you! I'd encourage all of you parents to have a look, spend a day there, volunteer your services. It's very special what they do.
Our first project: Our Big Kitchen

.There are many things that we considered when deciding on what our first project would be. We wanted to support a charity we felt passionate about, in terms of their goals and the people who were running the charity. When we met Rabbi Slavin and his wife Laya and Rebecca from Our Big Kitchen we knew right away that not only did we want to financially support this incredible charity but also to get our hands dirty – literally and help this fantastic community grow.
Our Big Kitchen (OBK) is a local community initiative providing opportunities for individuals to join together to support others. It is a commercial kosher kitchen which is never quiet – blenders, ovens, hot plates and taps are always being used, phones are ringing with people offering to volunteer their time and calls are being answered from people in need of support.
Our first experience at OBK was helping out with a ‘Cook In’. Young people coming to together with a common goal and all surrounding food and cooking. What better place could we wish to be in. Since this first experience we have helped with preparing a Shavuot banquet which was shared with 80 new friends and colleagues; have run cooking classes for Bar Mitzvah boys and their families, and a group of overseas Uni Students and most recently hosted and run our very own Cook In.
With the help of 5 phenomenal friends and the amazing facilities at Our Big Kitchen we prepared and cooked a Spanish Paella filled with purpose-made Chorizo from Eilat at Hadassah Kosher Butchers and topped with Spanish-style roasted chicken. We completed 60 serves which went out to people for Shabbat the next day.
if you’re looking to get involved in something really meaningful, OBK are always looking for volunteers and support.
